Segment your audience!

Audience segmentation is a key element for a successful marketing campaign. It allows event organisers to better understand their audience. Additionally, marketing targeting is essential for creating more relevant campaigns for each customer segment. That's why we're delighted to introduce the new "segmentation" feature in Smartboard!
1. What is a segment?
A segment is a group of contacts from your community sharing similar attributes or behaviours. In other words, thanks to segmentation, you can group and track your contacts based on their age, geographical area, events they've attended and much more!
2. How to create segments?
You can create segments in two different ways. The first is to use dynamic filters. If you want to create segments based on demographic or behavioural criteria, dynamic filters are the ideal solution for you. Simply click on "Filter" from the contact list and select the criteria you want. The segments thus created are dynamic, meaning they evolve over time. When a contact no longer meets a segment's criteria, they are automatically removed.
The second way to create a segment is by manually importing a .csv file. If you already have a contact list according to your own logic, you can import this list and create a segment by ticking the "Save as segment" box. This option gives you total control over creating your segments.
3. Why use segments?
Now that you know how to create segments, you might be wondering what you can do with them. You can see how many contacts belong to a segment, send an email to all contacts in that segment (subscribers to your newsletter), push specific campaigns to them (ambassador programme, promo codes, early birds...), and export the contact list in .csv format. For example, when you publish your online ticketing, you can make reduced tickets visible to a specific segment only.
To help you get started, we've included two suggested dynamic segments in Smartboard: "Recent contacts" for new contacts added in the last 30 days and "Top buyers" for contacts who have spent more than 100 EUR on tickets for your events. These suggested segments are there to give you ideas, but feel free to create as many segments as meet your needs!
